Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on November 8 issued the following comments on the results of the recent U.S. presidential election:
Regarding the U.S. presidential election, major U.S. media reported on November 8 that the former Vice President of the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, is the projected president-elect.
We will pay close attention to what kinds of policies Mr. Biden will propose in regard to the Paris Agreement for climate change countermeasures that the U.S. has unilaterally withdrawn from, as well as the pandemic measures through the World Health Organization (WHO) that the U.S. has announced its withdrawal from.
Concerning Japan-U.S. relations, the JCP will approach the new administration by taking the position that Japan should put an end to its extraordinary subordination to the U.S. and establish Japan-U.S. relations on equal footing.
