Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira and JCP member of the House of Councilors Kira Yoshiko on March 15 delivered 19.7 million yen in donations the party received from around the country to help support children in Ukraine through UNICEF Japan.
They held talks with Takahashi Masahiro and Ebihara Ryuichi, staff members of the Japan Committee for UNICEF, in Tokyo.
Koike said, "It was intolerable for Russia to have bombed a maternity and children's hospital. Please utilize this money for children in Ukraine."
Takahashi and Ebihara expressed their thanks to the JCP and handed Koike a letter of gratitude.
Ebihara said that it is necessary to provide professional counselling to traumatized children who witnessed atrocities, worrying that fiercer street fighting will create more traumatized children.
About 140 UNICEF staff are now working in their mission in Ukraine.
