Opposition parties, including JCP, jointly submit bill to cancel introduction of tax-invoice system

June 11, 2022

The Japanese Communist Party, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, the “Reiwa Shinsengumi” party, and the Social Democratic Party on June 10 jointly submitted to the House of Representatives a bill to reduce the consumption tax rate and to cancel the introduction of a consumption-tax-invoice system.

JCP member of the Lower House Kasai Akira said, “While skyrocketing prices are dealing a blow to people’s daily lives and wage levels remain stagnant, levels of pension benefits will decrease. So, we decided to jointly submit the bill as an effective solution to the negative impacts of the ongoing price increase.”

JCP member of the Lower House Tamura Takaaki said, “It was significant for the four opposition parties to have successfully agreed to include the cancellation of the tax-invoice system and a cut in the consumption tax rate to 5% in the joint bill.”
Tamura pointed out that the number of municipalities objecting to the new tax-invoice system has increased from 50 to 272, adding, “Given the current situation, the cancellation of the tax-invoice system is a must. This will be an important issue of the Upper House election this summer.”
