The Japanese Communist Party Dietmembers' Group on July 21 formed a "task force team" to reveal the former Unification Church's political maneuvers amid public attention being focused on the Moonies following the shooting of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo.
In the team's first meeting held in the Diet building on the same day, JCP Secretariat Head Koike Akira, who will head the team, called on JCP Dietmembers to look thoroughly into the issues involving the former Unification Church known as the Moonies from a variety of angles.
Koike pointed out that the Moonies have been causing antisocial problems such as forcing their followers to make enormous monetary donations, illegally recruiting new members, and selling expensive merchandise in addition to their deep engagement in currying political favor. He also pointed out that their organization, International Federation for Victory over Communism, has repeatedly made attacks against the JCP.
He stated, "The Moonies are an organized group that the JCP must directly confront. Let us work to unravel their schemes and political machinations.
The JCP Dietmembers in the first meeting studied the problems of the Moonies, their history, and their relations with politicians.
