Japanese Communist Party Diet Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji held talks with his counterpart in the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, Azumi Jun, in the Diet building and confirmed that in the extraordinary Diet session scheduled to be convened in October, the two parties will strengthen their joint struggles and thoroughly probe into issues involving the Moonies (former Unification Church).
At a press conference after the talks, Azumi said that his party cooperated with the JCP in off-session Diet hearings regarding the Moonies-related issue, adding, “We confirmed that the two parties will continue working together on various issues.”
According to Diet affairs chiefs of the JCP and the CDPJ, the two parties will work in collaboration to uncover the whole truth behind the ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s ties with the Moonies; to push the LDP to accept its liability for its PR role in supporting the cult and for the expansion of damages caused by the Moonies’ wrongful acts; to urge the government to take all necessary steps to compensate Unification Church victims; and to establish a legal framework to provide relief to the victims and prevent future Moonies-related damages.
Furthermore, in the upcoming extra Diet session, the JCP and the CDPJ will jointly demand that the government make all-out efforts to help the general public survive the ongoing price surge and to protect people’s lives during the pandemic. The two parties will also look into the Tokyo Olympic bribery scandal and make clear the need for the government to take responsibility and properly deal with the scandal.
