JCP talks with 6 groups of lawyers

November 2, 2022
Japanese Communist Party Dietmembers on November 1 held a meeting in the Diet building with six organizations of lawyers working on the issue of constitutional revision.

JCP lawyer-turned-lawmaker Yamazoe Taku and four other Dietmembers of both chambers attended the meeting.

The JCP representatives and the lawyers exchanged views on focal points in the current extraordinary session of the Diet, including the issues of the former Unification Church and former Prime Minister Abe's "state funeral", and the moves being made by constitutional revisionists.

Lawyer Yamada Daisuke presented materials summarizing the points of discussions regarding the issue of the former Unification Church and asked the JCP to work to thoroughly probe into the Moon cult issue.

JCP Diet Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji said, "We are taking the current Diet session as an opportunity to fully investigate the cult." Regarding the moves by the Kishida government to revise the war-renouncing Article 9 of the Constitution and to promote Japan's militarization, Kokuta said, "Diet debate is in a conflict between peace and war. National movement opting for peace should be increased even more."

Lawyer Oe Kyoko in response said, "Public opposition to the country's military buildup is important. We are willing to provide help to the JCP on issues where we can cooperate."

Representatives of both the JCP and the six legal organizations agreed to work with each other to address common issues.
