Calling for an early settlement of the issue of the wartime Korean forced labor in Japan, a rally took place on November 30 in the House of Representatives members’ office building.
Japanese Communist Party Lower House members Kasai Akira and Motomura Nobuko attended the rally.
Rally organizer Yano Hideki said that as the victims of Korean forced labor in wartime Japan are growing older, it is necessary to push the Japanese government to offer apologies to them and decide on an early settlement on this issue.
Tokyo University Professor Tonomura Masaru pointed out that the wartime forced labor issue should be discussed also from the aspect of labor issues because workers were taken from the Korean Peninsula as cheap, disposable labor to Japan with no legal grounds.
Novelist and Hosei University Professor Nakazawa Kei pointed out that the issue of Japanese firms’ use of Korean forced labor during the war has something in common with today’s corporations and their abusive treatment of foreign trainees.
