Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on February 9 received a written request from the legal team of the group "Marriage for All Japan" asking for JCP cooperation in order to protect the human rights of sexual minorities.
In a meeting in the Diet building with lawyer Mori Ai, cohead of the lawyers in the group's Kyushu lawsuit, Shii said, "I totally agree with your request. The JCP is working to revise the Civil Code so that same-sex marriage can be recognized as well as to make laws banning LGBTQ/SOGI discrimination."
He added, "Our party will continue to working on this together with LGBTQ people and organizations."
