In the mayoral election held on September 3 in Tokyo’s Tachikawa City, a former Tokyo Metropolitan assemblyperson, who received support from the opposition/concerned citizens alliance including the Japanese Communist Party, was elected for the first time, beating a Liberal Democratic Party candidate and a candidate recommended by the Democratic Party for the People and the “Tomin First no Kai” party.
The JCP together with the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, Tokyo-based local parties (the Seikatsusha Network and the Greens Japan), and a local Civil Alliance in Tachikawa confirmed the policies held in common with the ex-metropolitan assemblyperson, Sakai Daishi, and worked to help him to win the election.
