JCP Koike: JCP will conduct election campaign from its own standpoint

October 6, 2024
Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira, on a BS-TBS news program aired on October 4, implied that the JCP in principle will not officially cooperate with the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan in the coming general election.

He said, “Our cooperation in the past several national elections was possible only because we agreed on a joint effort to abolish the national security related legislation dubbed war laws.”

Noting that Noda, the new president of the CDPJ, stated that the war legislation cannot be repealed immediately, Koike said, “The basis for a joint struggle in national elections was thus undermined.”

Koike, however, added that in some constituencies, candidates could be adjusted based on their past campaign history. “What is important,” he continued, “is for each opposition party to engage in the election campaign from its own standpoint in order to shake up and defeat the LDP.”

He expressed his determination to do his best to achieve an increase in JCP seats in the October 27 general election.
