JCP CC chair talks with Vietnam’s parliamentary speaker

December 7, 2024

Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on December 6 held talks with visiting Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man in Tokyo.

Shii touched on the more than half century relationship between the JCP and the Communist Party of Vietnam as well as on the recent development in the bilateral ties. He noted that he and the late CPV Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong reached an agreement on: peacebuilding in East Asia in collaboration with ASEAN; the abolition of nuclear weapons and the promotion of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons; and the strengthening of cooperation and exchanges between the two parties through such means as theoretical exchanges. The JCP CC chair expressed his determination to continue improving the JCP-CPV cooperation based on the agreement.

Man in response stated that he valued highly the history and the development of the two parties’ relations, and expressed his hope that by closely working together, the two parties will maintain frequent contact and further strengthen their relations, and that this will contribute to the future of the Vietnam-Japan relationship.

Shii handed over to the Vietnamese NA chair the JCP proposal for “Peacebuilding in East Asia” and said that the JCP places importance on ASEAN initiatives, including the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), which aim to advance inclusive dialogue and cooperation. He talked about his experience of giving a speech under the theme, “Diplomacy, not Military; Inclusion, not Exclusion”, at the International Conference of Asian Parties (ICAPP) General Assembly held in Phnom Phen last month. The JCP official said that it is significant that the general assembly declaration incorporated the idea of “creating peace with dialogue and inclusivity”, and added that the JCP will work for peacebuilding in East Asia in line with this declaration.

Expressing his support to Shii, Man said that he hopes that they continue communicating with each other regarding the increasingly complex world situation.

Those who were present at the talks included JCP Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo, who is in charge of the JCP International Commission, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu.
