Japanese Communist Party Diet Policy Commission Chair Shiokawa Tetsuya on December 16 criticized the ruling Liberal Democratic Party for trying to maintain a system that allows the purchase of political fundraising party tickets by foreign agents and foreign corporations.
Shiokawa, at a meeting of the House of Representatives Special Committee on Political Reform, pointed out that the LDP proposal, while prohibiting foreigners and foreign corporations from purchasing fundraiser tickets, excludes “foreign-affiliated companies whose Japanese corporation has been listed for more than five years” from the proposed ban by defining them as “specially listed corporations”.
He said, “The prevention of policies and elections from being influenced by foreign capital is a matter of national sovereignty,” and demanded again that all forms of political donations from corporate groups be forbidden.
