Japanese Communist Party International Commission Chair Ogata Yasuo (JCP vice chair) on January 15 held an online meeting with Vincent Boulet who is in charge of the French Communist Party (PCF) international relations.
Ogata and Boulet confirmed that the visit of JCP Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo to Paris last September and the meeting between Shii and PCF National Secretary Fabien Roussel had been of great significance. The two discussed future cooperation and how to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki following the awarding of Nobel Peace Prize to Nihon Hidankyo.
They reported to each other on the political climate in their respective countries and the activities of their respective parties. In addition, they exchanged views on the current situation in Europe and Asia.
Boulet spoke of his concerns about U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement that he will urge NATO countries to increase military spending to 5% of GDP and invite far-right political parties’ representatives to his inauguration ceremony.
Ogata reported on the discussions at the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) General Assembly in Cambodia last November and on the “Phnom Penh Declaration” adopted at the assembly. He pointed to the significance of the declaration which pushes for inclusive dialogue in the face of deepening geopolitical conflicts and declining international cooperation.
