JCP CC Chair Shii talks with outgoing Lao ambassador

March 14, 2025
Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on March 13 held talks at the JCP head office in Tokyo with outgoing Lao Ambassador to Japan Phongsamouth Anlavan.

The ambassador referred to the recent development of relations between Laos and Japan into a comprehensive strategic partnership, and thanked the JCP for its support and contribution in this regard.

Shii expressed his gratitude to the ambassador for her service. Recalling his first visit to Laos in December 2023, he said that with his talks with General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, the relationship between the two parties was elevated to new heights. He thanked for the ambassador’s assistance in helping to facilitate Shii’s visit.

Shii said that the JCP published its proposal for peacebuilding in East Asia based on his visit to Southeast Asian countries. He touched on the UN Convention on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and the issue of unexploded bombs with which Laos has been struggling since the end of the second Indochina war (1964-1973), and expressed his intent to promote cooperation with Laos on peace issues.

The ambassador mentioned the importance of peace and stability in East Asia, and expressed her expectation for a further expansion of the two parties’ relations.
