The Japanese Communist Party has collected more than 660 million yen from throughout the nation and directly delivered the money to areas devastated by the March 11 disaster.
It has also organized volunteers and sent them to the disaster-stricken region since the end of April.
Among 82 local governments that received donations from the JCP by the end of April, 35 were given additional donations from the party since they are located on the coast line and were severely affected by the tsunami. The JCP is also sending money to 22 agricultural cooperatives and 46 fishery cooperatives in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures.
