Shii talks with CPV Sang

June 3, 2011
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on June 2 talked with Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and Permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in Tokyo.

They agreed to continue to further enhance the friendship and cooperative relations developed between the two parties since the Vietnam War.

Sang expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the victims of the Great East Japan Disaster. Shii expressed his appreciation for his concern and told him that the JCP is exerting its full efforts to help support disaster victims and work for a people-oriented post-disaster reconstruction.

In the meeting, Shii explained the JCP position on nuclear power generation: the JCP is urging the government to make a political decision to withdraw from nuclear power generation and is opposed to exporting dangerous nuclear power plants abroad.

Shii stated that it is an issue of sovereignty for Vietnam how to formulate its domestic energy policy, and expressed his hope that Vietnam will learn from the ongoing nuclear crisis in Fukushima, saying, “I do not want to see a similar tragedy to occur in Vietnam.”

Sang replied, “I have great concern about nuclear accidents. Your point is very important and relevant.”
