The Japanese Communist Party on October 14 published an appeal calling on the public to jointly fight to stop the government from announcing its participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free-trade pact at the Asia-Pacific Economy Cooperation summit meeting in November.
In the appeal, the JCP pointed out that the TPP pact will deliver a devastating blow to Japan’s food and agriculture, and will undermine the foundation of people’s lives; impose the “collapsed U.S. rules” on every field related to Japanese people’s livelihoods and economy; and cause negative impact on local communities, employment, and domestic demand.
At a press conference, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo expressed his determination, saying, “Together with the people, the JCP will increase its effort to oppose Japan’s entry into the TPP. He also said that the JCP will take to the streets nationwide in concert with farmers’ national organization’s large-scale rallies.
