Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo congratulated Mauricio Funes on his taking office as the new president of El Salvador on June 1.
JCP Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo delivered the message to Funes, the first ever left-wing president of El Salvador, via the Embassy of El Salvador.
The message reads:
“Allow me to offer heartfelt congratulations on your taking office as the president of the Republic of El Salvador.
I hope that your call for national unity and people’s participation in achieving a true change will succeed and your administration will be a milestone in the cause of progressive change in national politics through the effort to overcome poverty and strengthen democracy and peace.
We hope for advances in the further development of friendship and cooperation between your government and our party on the struggle for peace, including the abolition of nuclear weapons, and social progress.”
