This is of historic importance.” He said that he hopes that the conference will result in a significant step toward the elimination of nuclear weapons by reconfirming the agreement in the 2000 NPT Review Conference in which the parties agreed to an “unequivocal undertaking by the nuclear-weapon states to accomplish the total elimination of their nuclear arsenals” and “engagement as soon as appropriate of all the nuclear-weapons States in the process leading to the total elimination of their nuclear weapons.”
The JCP chair stressed that it is imperative to start an international negotiation with the elimination of nuclear weapons as the primary goal in addition to partial nuclear disarmament measures, He expressed his determination to “make his utmost effort to convey the voices of the people of Japan, the only A-bombed country,”
