The Yamaguchi Prefectural Assembly on March 16 unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the possible relocation of U.S. Marines from Okinawa to Yamaguchi’s Iwakuni City.
The resolution requests that the central government disallow about 1,500 U.S. Marines now in Okinawa’s Futenma base to be re-stationed in the U.S. Marines Iwakuni base in Yamaguchi.
The resolution also opposes the plan for the Iwakuni base to provide a temporary aircraft apron for MV-22 Osprey aircraft.
