The Yokohama District Court on March 29 nullified the dismissal of a temporary worker by a staffing agency, ordering the company to pay him part of his unpaid wages.
The plaintiff is a 35-year-old man, seeking retraction of his dismissal in June 2009 by C-Tech Corporation, a subsidiary of the major staffing agency Prompt Holdings.
Prompt Holdings was formerly known as Goodwill, which was ordered by the government to suspend its business due to repeated illegal labor practices.
In 2009, using the global economic crisis as an excuse, C-Tech dismissed more than 4,000 temporary workers.
In court, the plaintiff’s lawyers claimed that the main cause for the worsening of the company’s business conditions in 2009 was its waiver of loans in order to save its parent company and that it had covered up the loss with the mass dismissal of temporary workers.
