Representatives of local citizens’ groups on April 11 submitted to the Ibaraki prefectural government office 69,165 signatures opposing the restart of the Tokai Daini Nuclear Power Plant in the prefecture and demanding that all nuclear reactors at the plant be decommissioned.
The number of signatures delivered so far totals 171,916.
Around 80 individuals belonging to associations of scholars, doctors, and lawyers in Ibaraki Prefecture participated in the action.
Official in charge of disaster and crisis management Tan Katsuyoshi in response told them that Governor Hashimoto Masaru is taking the signatures into serious consideration.
Before submitting the signatures, the participants visited the secretariat division to criticize the governor for refusing to meet with them, and demanded that the governor meet and discuss the issue with them.
