In a scandal involving the construction of Canon factories in Oita Prefecture, the president of the consultancy firm Daiko, who was arrested on suspicion of tax evasion, had received kickbacks from off-the-book funds of Kajima Corp., a major general contractor construction firm. That was learned on February 11.
It is suspected that Daiko President Oga Norihisa used his influence to make Kajima, the construction firm that had been awarded contracts for building Canon factories, pay him a total of 500 million yen in hidden installments.
In addition to this, using tactics such as entering fictitious outsourcing expenses, Oga hid about 976 million yen in income for two years and evaded about 300 million yen in taxes.
