Japanese Communist Party Diet Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji at a press conference on May 9 said that the Diet should subpoena former Democratic Party of Japan leader Ozawa Ichiro to disclose all information regarding his money scandal.
Regarding an appeal made on the same day to a higher court after the April 26 Tokyo District Court judgment of Ozawa’s acquittal on charges of violating the Political Funds Control Law, Kokuta said, “Regardless of the court decision, the Diet should take independent action to clearly determine Ozawa’s political and moral responsibilities.”
Pointing out that Ozawa used his trial as an excuse to refuse to explain his charges in the Diet while promising to be accountable for giving such an explanation, Kokuta said that the need now is for the Diet to obtain a full explanation from Ozawa through sworn testimony, a legally binding procedure.
