Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on March 1 sent the following message to Chilean President Michelle Bachelet Jeria to express sympathy for the quake victims:

“Upon hearing the news of the disaster your country suffered due to the huge earthquake and tsunami, we are deeply distressed. We would like to extend, through you, our heartfelt condolence toward the families who suffered losses and sincere sympathy toward the victims.”

“Hoping that rescue and assistance operations for the victims are carried out as quickly as possible, we will exert efforts so that international assistance and reconstruction activities will swiftly move forward.”
