Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on July 29 attended a reception held by Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cui Tian Kai in Tokyo in appreciation of Japanese support for Chinese people suffering damages from the Sichuan earthquake of May.
After a minute of silence for quake victims, Ambassador Cui expressed thanks to the Japanese government and people for extending relief to residents of the quake-hit areas.
Earlier, Shii handed Cui details of the JCP’s donation of about 5.06 million yen, which the JCP collected in its third round of fundraising. Shii expressed his sympathy for the quake victims, adding that he hopes that the quake-hit areas will return to normal life as early as possible.
Just after the quake on May 12, the JCP began a fund-raising campaign, and twice visited the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo on May 29 to donate about 14 million yen, and on June 16 to donate about 16.8 million yen. - Akahata, July 30, 2008
