Japanese Communist Party Diet members on July 28 asked the government to take measures to protect citizens from oil and grain price hikes.
House of Representatives member Kokuta Keiji and other JCP representatives handed to an Agricultural Ministry official a statement of request to Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo urging the government to develop international cooperation to take effective measures to regulate financial speculation, which has further pushed up oil and grain prices.
It also demanded that the government pay farmers and fishermen for losses they have incurred from the soaring prices until prices go down through the regulation of speculative transactions. - Akahata, July 29, 2008
