Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Representatives Kasai Akira in Kyoto City on November 3 said, “The JCP is calling for a 30% cut in emissions of greenhouse gases by 2020 with more energy-saving efforts and the full-scale introduction of renewable energy while using thermal power as a transitional stopgap energy.”
He participated in a debate, “Green Politics”, held as part of a symposium hosted by Kiko Network, an NGO working to prevent climate change.
Kasai in the debate with other politicians emphasized the importance of making the political decision to shut down all nuclear reactors in Japan immediately and take bold measures to stop global warming at the same time.
He stated, “This is the way to bring about a development of a green economy.”
Dietmembers from the Democratic, the Social Democratic, the People’s New, and the Green parties also took part in the debate.
