Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on November 18 announced that the JCP will propose a bill to cancel the move to further increase the consumption tax after the House of Representatives election.
He made the remark during his televised interview on NHK’s Sunday debate program.
“It is out of the question to forcibly impose a major consumption tax hike during a period of economic deflation,” said Shii, and expressed that in order to get the bill passed in the Diet, his party strives to double its Lower House seats from nine to 18 in the general election slated for December 16.
