Asked to comment on the devastating earthquake that struck eastern Sichuan Province, China, on May 12, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo said, “The size of the earthquake was enormous. I’m very concerned about the wide spreading damage in the region.”
Stressing that Japan, an earthquake prone country, is rich in experience, technology, and knowledge concerning earthquakes, Shii said, “The urgent task is to carry out rescue operations as swiftly as possible during the initial stages of the disaster. The Japanese government should discuss with the Chinese government how best Japan can assist in the relief activities.”
