In the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly, the Japanese Communist Party submitted a no-confidence motion against Tokyo Governor Ishihara Shintaro over his arrogance in forcing the metropolitan legislature to use 4 million yen to rebuild the failing bank established three years ago at the governor’s initiative.
The Liberal Democratic, Democratic, and Komei parties, and the Seikatsusha Network opposed the motion.
The introduction of a no-confidence motion against the Tokyo governor to the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly is the first in 43 years since the one against then Governor Azuma Ryutaro.
In a published statement on the same day, JCP Tokyo Assembly Members' Group Secretary General Yoshida Nobuo said as follows:
“Governor Ishihara is persistent in refusing to take responsibility for his failure and is turning his back on the majority voicing opposition to the governor’s proposal for using additional tax money to salvage ShinGinko Tokyo. He is even saying, ‘You can’t run the Tokyo administration if you are worried about what the public is saying’. The JCP therefore has concluded that Ishihara is no longer qualified to continue to be the governor and submitted a no-confidence motion against him. It is very regrettable that the motion was rejected by the Liberal Democratic, Democratic, and Komei parties, and the Tokyo Seikatusha Network.”
