US marine arrested for trespassing in Okinawa

February 15 and 19, 2013
Police arrested a U.S. marine on February 18 for trespassing onto a house in Ginowan City, Okinawa Prefecture.

The marine is a 22-year-old private stationed at Camp Zukeran (Camp Foster). He allegedly went up onto the roof of a house around 1 p.m. on that day.

When police went to the house after receiving a report from a passer-by, the marine smelled like alcohol and tried to run away from the spot, according to the police.

The U.S. Forces Command in Japan on February 13 relaxed an 11p.m. to 5a.m. curfew it imposed on all military personnel following the rape of a Japanese woman by U.S. sailors in Okinawa in October.

The curfew is now imposed only on lower-ranked enlisted personnel (below E5) from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. The ban on drinking alcohol applies to all servicemen during the same period of time.
