Japanese Communist Party House of Councilors member Kami Tomoko stated that quake-prone Japan needs to swiftly shift its source of power generation from nuclear to natural energy in a meeting with Russian Lower House parliamentarians on April 2.
Ivan Grachev, head of the Lower House committee for energy, told Japanese lawmakers representing the Japan-Russia parliamentarians’ league that he considers it is very questionable to develop nuclear energy in densely-populated areas with a high risk of earthquakes.
The Russian lawmaker, who studied physics in college, added that he has long held this belief.
Grachev also said that although it is not appropriate to completely depart from the use of nuclear energy, generating nuclear power must be stopped in earthquake-prone areas.
