The Wakayama District Court on April 16 acknowledged cerebrospinal fluid leak a former plumber has suffered as caused by a work-related accident and ordered the government to provide him with disability compensation pension.
In July 2002, the 42-year old plaintiff was working on the first floor of a construction site in Wakayama City. An electric wire spool weighing of about 11kg dropped from the 12th floor and hit his neck. Due to this worksite accident, he suffered from a cerebrospinal fluid leak that resulted in tetraplegia.
According to his lawyer, this is the first ruling in favor of a plaintiff in work accident cases related to a cerebrospinal fluid leak.
