Nearly half of Japan’s temporary workers want a full-time job, a Labor Ministry survey found.
The ministry released the survey results on September 5 of agency workers as of October 1, 2012.
The findings show that 43.2% of respondents seek a permanent job, not a temporary one. Although 43.1% want to continue working as a temporary worker, more than 80% of them seek a regular, full-time job. It is clear that the overwhelming majority of agency workers aspire to get a more stable job.
The average hourly wages of respondents is 1,351 yen, up by 61 yen (4.7%) from the previous survey in 2008. Those who are “dissatisfied” with their earnings account for 35.1% of total.
According to age brackets, the largest is the group aged 35 to 39, 19.2%, followed by those aged 30 to 34, 16.4%, and those aged between 40 and 44, 15.1%. These figures indicate that most of temporary workers have been getting older without getting out of their temporary status.
