CPV Nhan Dan visits JCP Akahata

A delegation of Nhan Dan newspaper of the Communist Party of Vietnam on September 10 visited the Akahata editorial office in Tokyo.
Prior to the Akahata visit, they met with Akahata director Kogiso Yoji at the nearby Japanese Communist Party head office and discussed the role of party organ papers and the importance of editorial affairs.
Nhan Dan editorial member Dinh Nhu Hoan said that he has an interest in the position of Akahata in the Japanese media industry, and expressed his hope on behalf of the delegation that relations between Nhan Dan and Akahata will further develop.
The group was visiting Japan to see how the Japanese media functions in preparation for establishing a CPV TV station.
JCP Kami speaks at ICAPP meeting on women in Seoul

Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors Kami Tomoko on September 13 spoke at a meeting of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) on Women’s Leadership and Empowerment held in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
Kami reported on the actual status of women in Japan and the background behind why the country lags far behind in measures to remove gender inequality even after it ratified the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
She also talked about the former Japanese Army system of sex slavery during the war, the so-called comfort women issue.
The JCP lawmaker pointed out that the Japanese government’s lack of a proper understanding of history and of a basic understanding of human rights constitutes an obstacle to the promotion of peace and mutual understanding in East Asia.
She, as a JCP Dietmember, expressed her determination to make her utmost effort to establish regional peace in cooperation with the people of Japan and abroad while demanding that the present administration apologize and compensate for Japan’s wartime colonial rule over other countries.
Her speech referring to the comfort women issue attracted great attention. After she spoke, many came up to her to offer a handshake or ask for her speech script.
Kami received feedback from female members of the Korean National Assembly saying that they were impressed by the activities in Japan being done by people working to meet the demands of victims known as the former comfort women.
The ICAPP Special Conference on Women’s Leadership and Empowerment took place on September 12-14 in Seoul with 32 political parties from 21 Asian countries participating. They discussed women’s participation in political and economic activities and the role women play in working for regional peace. The Conference ended after adopting the Seoul Declaration calling for the eradication of legal and social discrimination against women. African and Latin American organizations also took part in the event as observers.
