The Democratic Youth League of Japan (DYLJ) held its 34th National Congress in Tokyo on November 21-23 and adopted a resolution calling for a stronger DYLJ. It also reelected Tanaka Yu as its chair.
More than 200 delegates and observers from throughout the country took part in the congress to exchange their experiences in various activities, including organizational strengthening activities.
DYLJ Chair Tanaka in his report on the resolution pointed out, “Young people are seeking their place in the DYLJ,” and said that by joining the DYLJ, young people experience a sense of solidarity with others, help each other to advance their progress by taking action, and that such experiences are essential to increase the DYLJ’s movement calling for employment security and reduction of tuition fees as well as a change in government policies.
Tanaka proposed that organizational build-up can succeed by utilizing the DYLJ members’ experiences to provide youth a place where they can be themselves and candidly talk about anything that concerns them.
On the second day of the congress, Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi gave a talk about the political and social situation surrounding young people in Japan and the meaning of DYLJ’s existence and its role in working to change government policies.
Ichida pointed out that because many youth are encountering difficulties due to the various problems caused by bad politics, they are eagerly searching for a way out of their plight and have begun to take action.
Ichida said, “If the younger generations succeed in sharing a sense of unity, finding out the fundamental reasons for their hardships, and have a vision for solving such hardships, they will create a society in which every one will have a place in a people-oriented Japan in the future.”
Ichida also said that as an advisor to the DYLJ, the JCP will drastically strengthen its assistance to the DYLJ by gaining a better understanding of the DYLJ’s activities and vision.
