A local committee of the Japanese Communist Party has received a letter of appreciation for its recovery assistance to an earthquake-hit village in Nagano Prefecture.
The deputy mayor of Sakae Village on June 26 visited the JCP Nagano Prefectural Committee office and handed the letter to the JCP committee chair, expressing gratitude for the JCP contribution which began immediately after a big quake occurred on March 12, 2011.
The day after the Great East Japan Disaster 39 months ago, the huge quake struck Sakae Village, about 220 kilometers northwest of Tokyo, killing three villagers and damaging 694 houses and 832 farms.
With local branches and village assembypersons of the JCP in the lead, the party soon began rescue and evacuation support activities. The JCP organizations at the prefectural and district levels engaged in volunteer activities, offered relief goods, and made donations to quake victims.
