The government on March 17 decided not to publicize job-opening information by so-called “black corporations” at its public job placement “Hello-Work” offices due to pressure brought to bear by citizens groups and the Japanese Communist Party demanding the eradication of such blatantly law-breaking companies.
Hello-Work offices will reject companies’ requests for job placement assistance, if they are found to be violating labor laws and will not allow them to post their job-vacancy ads for new graduates. The labor authorities will require companies which recruit new graduates to provide specific information on the job offering and hiring situation; the ability development opportunities; and the efforts being taken to improve job retention rates.
Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors Kira Yoshiko at the Diet has frequently brought up the issue of black corporations forcing young people to work under sweatshop-like working conditions.
At a House Audit Committee meeting on February 6, Kira revealed exploitative labor practices conducted at the major restaurant chain “Nakau” and “Sukiya”, both operated by Zensho Holdings Co., Ltd. Zensho is allegedly in violation of the Labor Standards Act. She demanded that Prime Minister Abe Shinzo make public the names of such highly exploitative companies.
