Well-known Japanese musicians and composers on August 28 formed a group to oppose the security legislation which is currently under Diet deliberation, claiming that war is totally incompatible with music enriching people’s hearts, minds, and lives.
By the power of music, the group will try to encourage those who are working hard in and out of the Diet to withdraw the war bills, they said.
The group’s nine founders, including composer Ikebe Shin’ichiro and music critic Yukawa Reiko, called on many other musicians to support this action. As of August 28, 185 artists and 21 music-related organizations expressed support for the group.
The group will organize a big antiwar concert in September with 150 musicians appearing.
