Dietmembers of the Japanese Communist Party on January 4 attended the opening ceremony of the ordinary Diet session for the first time with the Emperor in attendance.

Asked by reporters for his impressions of the ceremony afterword, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo pointed out the need to change the form of the ceremony as it still follows the prewar style and the Emperor addresses the Diet from his throne.
