Yokosuka City urges US military to work to prevent recurrence of crimes committed by US servicemen

January 10, 2016
Yokosuka City in Kanagawa Prefecture on January 8 urged the U.S. Yokosuka Naval Base to take preventive measures against crimes by U.S. military personnel and provide them thorough instructions on acceptable drinking behavior.

This move was made in the wake of the arrest of a drunken U.S. sailor for assault on Japanese citizens on the previous day.

The incident occurred at around 11 p.m. on January 7. A 22-year-old U.S. Navy seaman, who is deployed to the submarine tender USS Frank Cable, at a restaurant in Yokosuka City allegedly hit three Japanese citizens, including a woman, while under the influence of alcohol.
