The Houses of Representatives and Councilors on January 8 in their plenary meetings unanimously adopted resolutions protesting against North Korea’s nuclear test conducted two days earlier.
The resolutions stress that the latest nuclear test clearly violated a series of UN Security Council resolutions and the joint statement of the Six Party Talks, as well as the Japan-N. Korea Pyongyang Declaration. The protest statements point out that Pyongyang’s act poses a serious challenge to the international framework for nuclear non-proliferation. The statements also point out that as the only A-bombed country, Japan cannot tolerate this outrageous act and strongly protests against the act.
The resolutions also demand that North Korea abandon its nuclear programs in accordance with past agreements, accept inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency, and make efforts to achieve the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
The documents also state that the international community should jointly conduct diplomatic efforts to reach a peaceful settlement of this matter.
