The U.S. Naval Forces in Japan announced on June 17 that it has loosened the alcohol restriction put in place for all U.S. sailors in the country.
Since a navy woman deployed to the U.S. Kadena Air Base in Okinawa injured two local residents while driving under the influence on June 5, the U.S. military had banned all its sailors in Japan from drinking alcohol both inside and outside the bases.
According to the announcement, this time U.S. sailors are allowed to drink alcohol within the base sites and in their homes outside the military facilities. It also states that the military authorities will “take further steps” toward a complete removal of the ban on drinking.
On June 10, the U.S. Navy lifted the curfew imposed on its sailors during off-hours.
These facts show clearly that what the U.S. Forces claim as “recurrence prevention measures” are a complete sham.
