The Okinawa prefectural police arrested two U.S. marines on July 1 at Naha Airport on suspicion of possessing live ammunition.
Both of the two marines are stationed at U.S. Camp Kinser located in Okinawa’s Urasoe City.
One of the suspects, Joel McMillan, 33, was found carrying two rifle rounds in his luggage at the security checkpoint of the airport. He reportedly told the police that he brought them by mistake.
At the same airport, security inspectors found the other suspect, 35-year-old Jermarcus Tate, carrying a pistol bullet in his baggage. He allegedly claims that he was unaware of the bullet in his suitcase.
