On the first day of the 191st extraordinary session of the Diet which was convened for three days from August 1, the Japanese Communist Party has at least one representative seated in all 17 standing committees of the House of Councilors. In addition, the number of JCP members in the Upper House Commission on the Constitution increased from two to three.
This came from the JCP advance in the July Upper House election. In the election which contested half of the House’s 242-seats, the JCP won six seats. Combined with the uncontested seats, the JCP has 14 seats in the House.
