Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo at a press conference at the JCP head office on September 15 said that he wants to further promote the joint struggle by opposition parties and concerned citizens, and congratulated the election of Renho as the new leader of the largest opposition Democratic Party.
Asked by reporters about a future united effort with the Renho-led DP, Shii said, “The four opposition party leaders and secretaries-general have repeatedly confirmed the intent to generate as much cooperation as possible in future elections. So, I hope we will discuss with the new DP leadership how we can best work together based on this agreement.”
Regarding electoral cooperation in the next general election, he told the press corps that the JCP would need to make special efforts to achieve a forward-looking agreement regarding the possibility of a new government amid the many new challenges lying ahead. He added, “With these challenges in mind, our party will seek discussions with the DP leadership.”
