JCP EC Chair Tamura points to the regressive nature of the consumption tax

JCP Executive Committee Chair Tamura Tomoko, at a meeting of the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives on February 21, pointed to the regressive nature of the consumption tax and demanded cuts in the consumption tax rate.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the consumption tax burden is 6.3% for working households with annual incomes of 2 million yen or less, 5.5% for those with annual incomes of 2.01 to 3 million yen, and 3.9% for those with annual incomes of 7.01 to 8 million yen.
