Former JCP Vice Chair Tachiki Hiroshi dies

Former Japanese Communist Party Executive Committee Vice Chair Tachiki Hiroshi on June 20 died at a hospital in Chiba Prefecture. He was 86.
His funeral will be held with only relatives attending on June 25.
Tachiki was born in 1931 and joined the JCP in 1952. In 1959, he served as a local branch leader in Kochi Prefecture, and engaged in helping to build a progressive movement mainly in Kochi. In 1964, Tachiki became a member of the International Bureau of the JCP Central Committee and was appointed as an acting Director of the International Bureau in 1971. In July 1974, he was elected to the House of Councilors, and served 5 terms for 26 years until he resigned due to ill health in December 2000.
Tachiki was the JCP’s International Commission Chair and the JCP’s foreign policy commission chair as well as a Diet member. At the JCP 22nd Congress in 2000, Tachiki became an officer emeritus of the Central Committee.
