SDF aircraft drops a part

Akahata learned that an F-15 fighter jet stationed at the Air Self-Defense Force Naha Base on July 26 dropped landing light glass on a runway at Naha Airport in Okinawa during takeoff.

Naha Airport had to shut down the runway for 47 minutes because bits of glass were scattered around. During the temporary closure, SDF military personnel collected shards of glass and cleaned up the area.

At Naha Airport, currently operational for both military and civilian use, on January 30 this year a runway was closed for one hour and 50 minutes when another F-15 fighter jet belonging to the SDF Naha base stopped on the runway as its front wheel became disconnected from its airframe.

Yet another F-15 fighter jet on July 20, 2016 stopped on a taxiway due to a malfunction of its brake system, making other commercial planes wait for 40 minutes until takeoffs were allowed to resume.
